Inspiring Environmental Initiative in Indore: Planting 111 Trees on a Birthday

In Indore, a remarkable initiative for environmental conservation took place as medical social worker Pooja Ahirwar dedicated her 32nd birthday to nature by planting 111 trees on Devguradia Hill. The event was graced by renowned environmentalist and Padma Shri awardee Janak Palta McGilligan, whose inspiration made this special occasion possible.

A Commitment to Nature

Pooja Ahirwar, who serves as the secretary of ICMR-NITHR Jabalpur and the Tapasya Nari Seva Samiti Charitable Trust, shared that she has been celebrating her birthday through tree planting for several years. She revealed that her inspiration came from a birthday event hosted by Padma Shri Janak Palta McGilligan, where 75 trees were planted to promote environmental conservation. Since then, she has vowed to dedicate her birthday to nature each year.

A Call to Action

During the event, Janak Palta McGilligan emphasized that environmental protection is not solely the government's responsibility but a moral duty for every citizen. She urged individuals to link significant life events, such as birthdays and anniversaries, with tree planting instead of using polluting materials like plastic balloons and thermocol.

Community Efforts

The Indore Forest Department's ranger, Sangeeta Thakur, along with Praveen Malviya from the Devguradia area and the team from the Sintech Eco Foundation, actively supported the initiative. Together, they successfully advanced the tree planting campaign as a community effort.

Student Participation

Students from Devi Ahilya University in Indore, studying social work and other subjects, enthusiastically participated in this initiative. They not only engaged in planting trees but also committed to prioritizing environmental conservation during their future special occasions.

Pooja Ahirwar expressed gratitude to all collaborators, stating that this effort is not just a one-day event but a continuous campaign aimed at creating a green and clean environment for future generations.
