Guwahati, April 4: In response to the LPG crisis, oil marketing firms have conducted over 2,000 inspections, leading to showcause notices issued to 18 distributors.
According to an IOC representative, more than 700 inspections at LPG distribution points in Assam have been carried out in collaboration with government officials, while the total inspections by all oil marketing companies exceed 1,500. Actions have been initiated against approximately 18 LPG distributors.
Malpractices reported by customers and highlighted on social media have prompted these inspections.
To combat black marketing and hoarding, various cross-functional teams have been assigned to perform surprise checks at LPG distribution centers, as stated by IOC.
Currently, in Assam, IOCL is distributing around 100,000 LPG cylinders daily, with about 80% of bookings made through digital platforms.
The oil company reassured that the LPG supply remains stable and is being closely monitored, despite the ongoing geopolitical issues affecting global energy markets.
“Domestic LPG supply is prioritized. IndianOil has ensured a consistent LPG supply to households, delivering approximately 2.8 million cylinders daily across the nation, which aligns with normal delivery levels before the current geopolitical tensions,” the statement read.
Customers are encouraged to utilize digital methods such as SMS and IVRS for ordering LPG refills.
Deliveries are now accompanied by Delivery Authentication Codes (DAC OTP) to confirm that cylinders reach the correct recipients.
