Minister Reviews Kumbhabhishekam Ceremony Preparations
The Minister for Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments, Ramesh, conducted an unexpected inspection on Thursday at the Meenakshi Amman Temple to assess the preparations for the upcoming Kumbhabhishekam ceremony. Speaking to reporters, Ramesh explained the purpose of his visit. He noted that the significant Kumbhabhishekam event at the renowned temple in Madurai is scheduled to take place in the next two to three months. The minister stated that he was there to review the progress of the preparations and construction work for the ceremony. He emphasized that the inspection aimed to ensure that the Kumbhabhishekam is conducted as planned and on schedule. Ramesh reassured that nearly 90% of the construction work is complete, with only 10% remaining, and he is committed to ensuring that the remaining tasks are finished promptly.
Recent Violence Raises Concerns
This inspection comes shortly after a tragic incident during the Chithirai festival, where a murder occurred within the temple premises. According to police reports from Monday, a gang of five brutally killed a 17-year-old boy in the parking area of the Meenakshi Amman Temple. The victim has been identified as Kubendran. Initial investigations suggest that the murder was a result of longstanding enmity, particularly linked to a recent altercation during the Chithirai festival. In response to this incident, former BJP state president K. Annamalai sharply criticized the law and order situation under the newly formed 'Tamilga Vetri Kazhagam' (TVK) government led by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay.
Political Reactions to the Incident
Annamalai shared a video of the crime scene on the social media platform X, highlighting the bloodstains of the young boy who was brutally murdered near the Meenakshi Amman Temple in Madurai. He expressed concerns over the apparent impunity enjoyed by drug dealers, sexual offenders, and murderers in Tamil Nadu. The BJP leader accused the state police force of failing to maintain vigilance and criticized the new government for its inability to govern responsibly.
