Influencer Admits Guilt in Cannabis Smuggling Case at Edinburgh Airport
Influencer's Arrest for Cannabis Smuggling
A social media influencer has confessed to attempting to smuggle cannabis valued at approximately £150,000 (around Rs 1.86 crore) into Scotland via Edinburgh Airport. Ellie Crampsie, aged 23, was apprehended with over 17 kg of the Class B substance in her luggage after returning from a trip to Thailand last year. She appeared in Edinburgh Sheriff Court on March 26, 2026, where she acknowledged her involvement in the supply of cannabis, according to reports.
Prosecutor Emma Laing informed the court that Crampsie had flown from Thailand to Edinburgh with a stopover in Paris on an Air France flight and was intercepted by Border Force officials on April 16. “She was asked the usual questions by the officer and she confirmed she had travelled from Thailand,” Laing stated. Upon inspection of her luggage, authorities found several vacuum-sealed packages.
In total, 17 sealed packages containing 17.7 kg of cannabis were discovered, with an estimated worth ranging from £115,000 to £151,000. Following her arrest at the airport, Crampsie pleaded guilty to being involved in the supply of cannabis when she appeared in court on Thursday, March 26.
Hailing from Broomhouse in Glasgow, Crampsie boasts a considerable following on social media and is a prominent figure in the city's nightlife and events, where she promotes various brands. Additionally, she operates her own beauty business, Brows by Ellie, specializing in styling and treatments.
Her defense attorney requested that her bail be maintained while a social work report is compiled, characterizing her previous offenses as “unremarkable in the context of this offense.” Sheriff Graeme Watson remarked, as reported, “I’m going to adjourn sentencing in this case to allow the court to obtain a criminal justice social work report and a restriction of liberty assessment. In the meantime, I am going to continue your bail conditions. That should be no prejudgment of what comes next; all sentencing options will be open to me on the next occasion.”
