Infiltration Attempts and Drone Activity in Jammu and Kashmir Raise Security Concerns
Ongoing Threats from Across the Border
In the border districts of Jammu and Kashmir, the infiltration of terrorists and arms smuggling orchestrated by Pakistan continues unabated. Early Monday morning, a suspicious Pakistani drone was spotted in the forward areas near the Line of Control (LoC) in Rajouri district. Following this sighting, the Indian Army and local police initiated a large-scale search operation throughout the region.
Suspicious Drone Activity in Sundarbani Sector
Security officials reported that during the night between Sunday and Monday, a flying object resembling a military or surveillance drone was observed over the villages of Meenka and Beripattan in the Sundarbani sector of Rajouri district. This drone hovered over the area for some time before quickly returning to Pakistan after breaching the Indian border.
Immediate Response and Search Operations
Upon the drone's return, security forces promptly cordoned off the area, including Meenka and Beripattan, and began a combing operation at dawn. The joint efforts of the army and Jammu and Kashmir police aimed to thoroughly search the surrounding wilderness and fields.
Concerns Over Potential Threats
Typically, drones crossing the border are utilized by terrorists for two primary purposes: delivering weapons and explosives, such as IEDs, pistols, grenades, or advanced rifles to active militants in the valley, and trafficking narcotics to fund terrorism, targeting youth in Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir.
Search Yields No Suspicious Materials
Fortunately, after several hours of intensive searching, security forces did not recover any suspicious or illegal materials from the area. Officials believe the drone may have been conducting reconnaissance or failed to drop its cargo due to the heightened alertness of the troops. Nonetheless, surveillance has been intensified in other sectors along the border as a precaution.
Strengthening Security Measures
In recent times, there has been a surge in terrorist activities and drone infiltration incidents in the Rajouri, Poonch, and Kathua districts of Jammu. In response, the Indian Army has increased the deployment of anti-drone systems and high-tech surveillance cameras along the LoC.
New Tactics from Across the Border
After facing continuous defeats in traditional infiltration attempts, the Pakistani intelligence agency ISI and terrorist organizations have adopted drone technology as their primary weapon. Utilizing the cover of dense forests and mountainous terrain, these drones infiltrate Indian territory under the cover of darkness.
Call for Vigilance Among Locals
This recent incident in Rajouri underscores that even with a ceasefire in place, Pakistan-backed elements are determined to create unrest in India. Currently, there is a strong military presence in Sundarbani and surrounding areas, and local residents have been urged to report any suspicious activities to the police immediately.
