Indore Woman Arrested for Allegedly Plotting Husband's Murder During Honeymoon

Arrest of Sonam Raghuvanshi
On Monday, Sonam Raghuvanshi from Indore was apprehended for allegedly orchestrating the murder of her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi, during their honeymoon. The police detained her at 'Kashi Dhaba' located on the Varanasi-Ghazipur main road, as reported by the Superintendent of Police in Ghazipur, Iraz Raja.
Denial of Charges
As per a report from a local media outlet, staff at the one-stop center in Ghazipur indicated that Sonam has refuted the murder allegations. A staff member, who wished to remain anonymous, stated, "After waking up later in the afternoon, she claimed she had been kidnapped and insisted that she did not kill anyone."
Family Support
Sonam's family has expressed their support for her. Her father, Devi Singh Raghuvanshi, asserted, "My daughter is innocent. I trust her completely. She would never commit such an act... Their marriage was consensual between both families. She arrived at a dhaba in Ghazipur last night and contacted her brother. The police then intervened and took her into custody."
Details of the Alleged Crime
According to Meghalaya's top police official, I Nongrang, Sonam allegedly plotted her husband's murder in the picturesque town of Sohra, Meghalaya. He revealed alarming details about the crime, which prompted a significant police operation across three states. Reports indicate that Raja was killed by individuals purportedly hired by Sonam. Following the murder, she vanished and later surfaced in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, where she surrendered at the Nandganj police station after the arrest of three suspects: Raj Singh Kushwaha (21), Akash Rajput (19), and Vishal Singh Chauhan (22).
Custody and Legal Proceedings
Authorities confirmed that Sonam was taken into custody by the Meghalaya Police around 6:30 PM, and the legal process to transfer her to Meghalaya is currently underway. The three suspects arrested in Madhya Pradesh have been remanded to Meghalaya for seven days by a district court in Indore.
Discovery of Raja's Body
Raja Raghuvanshi's body was discovered on June 2 in a deep gorge near Weisawdong Falls in the East Khasi Hills district, ten days after he was reported missing. The couple had married on May 11 in Indore and traveled to Meghalaya for their honeymoon. They were last seen on May 23, shortly after checking out of a homestay in Nongriat village, approximately 20 kilometers from where his body was located. Raja's family identified him by a distinctive tattoo on his right hand. At the crime scene, police also recovered a woman's white shirt, a strip of medication, a part of a mobile phone's LCD screen, and a smartwatch.
