IndiGo's CEO Addresses Flight Disruptions

New Delhi: IndiGo's Chief Executive Officer, Pieter Elbers, announced on Friday that the airline anticipates fewer than 1,000 flight cancellations on Saturday, with a return to normal operations expected between December 10 and 15.

After the airline faced over 1,000 cancellations, accounting for more than half of its daily flights, Elbers issued a video apology for the significant inconvenience experienced by travelers.

He stated, "Unfortunately, the previous measures taken in recent days were insufficient. Therefore, we have opted for a complete reboot of our systems and schedules, leading to the highest number of cancellations to date, but necessary for gradual improvements starting tomorrow."

Elbers added, "With these changes, we expect to see cancellations drop below 1,000 tomorrow. The assistance from the DGCA in providing specific relief for Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL) has been invaluable."

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has temporarily suspended the enforcement of new FDTL regulations, and issues in planning the second phase of these regulations are significant contributors to the ongoing flight disruptions.

As the largest airline in India, IndiGo typically operates around 2,300 flights each day.
