IndiGo Flight Issues Urgent 'Fuel Mayday' Call, Makes Emergency Landing in Bengaluru

Emergency Landing Amidst Rising Concerns

Bengaluru: Just as the shock from the devastating Air India crash that claimed over 270 lives began to subside, another serious incident emerged on Saturday. An IndiGo flight, carrying 168 passengers, issued a 'Fuel Mayday' alert while in the air and successfully executed an emergency landing at Bengaluru International Airport.

This event occurred on June 19 but has only recently been reported. An IndiGo representative, Rashmi, informed a news outlet that no formal statement had been released regarding the situation. She explained that the pilot declared a 'Fuel Mayday' after the flight was redirected from Chennai to Bengaluru due to air traffic congestion.

The pilot's declaration indicated an urgent need for landing, allowing the flight to land ahead of others, which it did safely.

According to the IndiGo spokesperson, it is a common protocol for pilots to issue a 'Fuel Mayday' when they require an emergency landing due to insufficient fuel.

Reports indicate that IndiGo flight 6E-6764 had departed from Guwahati Airport and was en route to Chennai International Airport. However, due to heavy traffic, the flight was diverted to Bengaluru.

This incident followed closely on the heels of an Air India flight crash that occurred after the pilots issued a 'Mayday' call, raising alarm and anxiety among those on board the IndiGo flight.

The IndiGo aircraft, which was critically low on fuel, managed to land safely at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru. Following the distress signal, Air Traffic Control (ATC) was notified, and emergency measures were put into action. Medical and fire response teams were on standby at the airport. The flight landed safely at 8:20 p.m., as reported by airport officials.

After the emergency landing, the aircraft continued its journey to Chennai with a new crew, as confirmed by sources.
