New Delhi: An IndiGo Airlines flight, carrying 238 individuals, was compelled to execute an emergency landing at Lucknow airport on Sunday following a reported bomb threat during the flight.
The flight, designated as 6E-6650, was en route from Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport to Bagdogra when the alarming situation arose.
In response to the threat, the aircraft was redirected to Lucknow as a safety precaution.
The airline confirmed, "A security concern was identified on IndiGo flight 6E 6650 traveling from Delhi to Bagdogra on Sunday, prompting the diversion to Lucknow."
An IndiGo representative stated, "We promptly notified the appropriate authorities and are fully cooperating with them to conduct the necessary security evaluations."
The airline is striving to minimize disruption for passengers by providing refreshments and regular updates.
"The safety and security of our passengers, crew, and aircraft remain our highest priorities," the spokesperson emphasized.
According to Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Rajneesh Verma, the bomb threat was uncovered after a handwritten note was discovered on a tissue in the aircraft's restroom.
After safely landing at Lucknow airport around 9:17 am, the aircraft was taken to an isolation area for security inspections.
All passengers were swiftly evacuated and screened to ensure their safety.
Air Traffic Control (ATC) received the bomb threat alert at approximately 8:46 am on January 18, leading to the activation of standard safety protocols.
Security teams, including the bomb disposal unit and CISF personnel, initiated a thorough examination of the aircraft and its vicinity.
A detailed investigation is currently in progress to eliminate any potential threats.
The flight was carrying 230 passengers, comprising 222 adults and eight infants, along with two pilots and five crew members. Officials confirmed that all individuals on board are safe.
