New Flight Services Announced

Silchar, June 17: The introduction of additional early morning direct flights on the Guwahati–Silchar route by IndiGo has provided significant relief to travelers in Barak Valley and surrounding regions.

On Monday, IndiGo shared on social media that it will be launching several new flight routes, including a Delhi–Jorhat service and extra daily early morning flights between Guwahati–Silchar and Guwahati–Dibrugarh, set to commence on September 20.

Additionally, the airline is planning to initiate flights connecting Guwahati and Navi Mumbai as part of its upcoming winter schedule.

In their announcement, IndiGo expressed excitement about the new routes to and from Assam, crediting the support from Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma and the Ministry of Civil Aviation.

Kaushik Rai, the Minister for Food and Civil Supplies and Barak Valley Development, who previously hinted at government initiatives to restore early morning flights between Guwahati and Silchar, praised this development.

He stated, “Under the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma ji, Assam's air connectivity is set to make significant advancements! This is a substantial enhancement for regional connectivity, trade, and tourism, paving the way for a brighter future for Barak Valley and beyond,” in a social media update.

Air connectivity from Silchar faced challenges after Air India halted its Silchar–Kolkata services on June 2 of this year.

Earlier in May, Chief Minister Sarma had discussions with Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu in Delhi regarding the improvement of air connectivity and infrastructure within the state.

The talks also included plans to enhance flight connections from Jorhat, Dibrugarh, and Silchar airports to various other cities across India in the near future.
