Leadership Change at IndiGo

New Delhi, March 31: InterGlobe Aviation Limited, which operates IndiGo, has announced the appointment of William Walsh as the new Chief Executive Officer, pending regulatory approvals. This decision follows the resignation of Pieter Elbers, who stepped down earlier this month.

Walsh, who is currently the Director General of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), is expected to transition to his new role by August 3, 2026, as his tenure at IATA concludes on July 31, 2026.

Known as Willie, Walsh has a rich background in the aviation sector, having previously served as the CEO of British Airways and the International Airlines Group (IAG), which includes several major airlines such as Aer Lingus and Iberia.

Vikram Singh Mehta, Chairman of IndiGo, expressed confidence in Walsh's capabilities, stating that his extensive experience in managing large airline operations and understanding complex market dynamics will be invaluable for IndiGo's growth in a competitive international aviation landscape.

Pieter Elbers resigned after a challenging period for IndiGo, which included a significant flight crisis in December. During his tenure of just over three years, Elbers led the airline through a phase of substantial growth.

Rahul Bhatia, Managing Director of IndiGo, welcomed Walsh, highlighting his impressive track record and leadership qualities that align with the airline's goals for transformation and growth.

As the new CEO, Walsh will oversee the airline's overall management and strategic direction, focusing on initiatives that enhance operational performance, expand the network, and improve customer experience.

Walsh remarked on the rapidly changing aviation landscape, expressing enthusiasm for collaborating with the IndiGo team to foster a culture of excellence and innovation while delivering sustainable value to all stakeholders.
