IndiGo Airlines Takes Major Steps to Resolve Flight Disruptions and Refunds
IndiGo's Refund Processing and Operational Recovery
New Delhi: IndiGo, the budget airline, has processed refunds amounting to Rs 610 crore following government mandates that required all refunds for cancelled or significantly delayed flights to be completed by 8 PM on Sunday, as stated by the Ministry of Civil Aviation.
Passengers are not required to pay any extra fees for rescheduling their travel due to cancellations, according to an official announcement. The airline has established dedicated support teams to assist passengers in resolving refund and rebooking issues promptly.
The ministry noted that IndiGo's operational performance is gradually improving, with flight schedules returning to normal.
Flight operations for IndiGo rose from 706 on Friday to 1,565 on Saturday, with expectations to reach approximately 1,650 by the end of Sunday. Other domestic airlines are reportedly functioning smoothly and at full capacity.
In response to recent cancellations that caused a spike in demand and airfares, the government has intervened by imposing a cap on airfares effective immediately. This action aims to ensure fairness and affordability for travelers. Following this directive, fare levels on affected routes have returned to acceptable ranges, and all airlines are required to adhere to the new fare structure.
IndiGo has also been directed to locate and deliver all baggage that was separated from passengers due to operational disruptions within 48 hours, maintaining continuous communication throughout the process. As of Saturday, the airline has successfully returned 3,000 pieces of baggage to passengers across the country.
Airport Directors from major cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, and Goa have reported normal conditions at terminals on Sunday. Passenger flow is smooth, with no congestion at check-in, security, or boarding areas. Enhanced on-ground support has been implemented through improved monitoring and timely assistance from airport operators and security forces.
The Ministry of Civil Aviation's 24/7 Control Room continues to operate as a central coordination hub, managing flight operations, airport conditions, and passenger support needs. They are promptly addressing passenger inquiries and providing necessary assistance. Teams are actively supervising operational planning, crew scheduling, and passenger handling to ensure compliance with standards.
The ministry has taken swift and decisive actions to mitigate the disruptions caused by the recent operational challenges faced by IndiGo, ensuring that passengers do not experience ongoing inconveniences. Air travel operations nationwide are stabilizing rapidly.
The aviation sector is progressing towards full normalization, and all corrective measures will remain in effect until operations are completely stabilized. The ministry will maintain vigilant oversight to safeguard passenger rights and interests, with further updates to be provided as necessary.
