Indian Boxing Team Prepares for Championships
A contingent of 56 young Indian boxers is ready to kick off their journey at the Asian Boxing U15 and U17 Championships 2026, set to take place tomorrow in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. This event will showcase some of the brightest young talents from across Asia, competing in various weight categories. India's participation reflects its commitment to nurturing young athletes and developing future champions in the sport.
Team Composition and Support
The U-17 teams consist of 13 boxers each in both boys' and girls' divisions, competing in weight classes from 44-46kg to over 80kg. Each team is supported by four coaches and a physiotherapist. In the U-15 category, there are 15 boxers in both boys' and girls' teams, competing in weight divisions from 30-33kg to over 70kg, with five coaches and a physiotherapist for each team.

Ajay Singh, President of the Boxing Federation of India, expressed optimism about the upcoming championships, stating, "These championships provide a vital opportunity for our young boxers to gain international experience and challenge themselves against Asia's best. In recent years, boxing has emerged as India's leading sport, consistently achieving the highest medal counts in major international competitions, including the Youth Asian Games and World Championships.
