Mandhana and Verma established a remarkable opening partnership of 129 runs, setting a new record for the highest opening stand in women's Asia Cup history. This partnership also marked the best in any T20I tournament final in women's cricket, leading India to a total of 183 runs for 5 wickets, while Sri Lanka was bowled out for just 111.

In a video shared by the BCCI post-match, Smriti reflected on India's T20 tournament performances since 2024, noting the challenges faced. Despite a successful ODI campaign culminating in a historic ICC Women's World Cup victory last year, the T20 format has proven difficult, with the team finishing in the group stages of both the ICC T20 World Cups in 2024 and 2026. Smriti recalled the disappointment of the 2024 Asia Cup final, where India failed to defend a score of 160 against Sri Lanka. 'It felt good to face the same team in the finals after two years. This win is a good confidence booster, but we must keep improving,' she stated.
Shafali's Impressive Performance
Smriti praised Shafali for her impressive innings of 68 runs off 39 balls, which included nine fours and two sixes. Shafali emerged as the tournament's leading run-scorer, amassing 236 runs in five matches at an average of 47.20 and a strike rate of 171.01, featuring three fifties and a top score of 68. She also achieved the fastest fifty in women's Asia Cup history, reaching the milestone in just 24 balls. Smriti noted, 'Today's innings was mature; you picked your gaps well, and it was great to watch how you handled the pressure.'
Shafali's Evolving Mindset
Shafali credited Smriti for her guidance on identifying gaps in the field and reflected on her changed mindset towards finals. She mentioned her recent performances in crucial matches, including an 87-run innings in the 50-over World Cup final against South Africa. 'I used to feel overwhelmed by finals, but now I focus on the basics—watching the ball and reacting. Learning quickly has helped my game,' she explained.
