India's Vigilance Against Terrorism: Lessons from Pahalgam Attack

Continued Vigilance Required

Guwahati, June 11: Despite the significant response from India following the Pahalgam terror incident, military and security forces must remain alert, as the threat of retaliatory actions from terrorists persists.

According to official sources, Pakistan has long relied on "non-state actors" to carry out violent acts in India, allowing them to avoid direct losses to their military.

Whenever confronted, Pakistan has consistently denied involvement.

Following the Mumbai attacks, which resulted in over 160 fatalities, India provided substantial evidence linking Pakistani-based terrorists to the incident, yet no action was taken by Pakistan. Recently, India has adopted a firmer stance, retaliating against Pakistan on three occasions, with the latest response being particularly severe.

This response served as a significant lesson for Pakistan, but the risk of future attacks remains. Numerous high-profile terrorist leaders continue to operate from Pakistan, and it is improbable that the country will take action against them.

Sources indicate that many terror launch pads and camps remain intact, with terrorist leaders enjoying protection in safe houses across Pakistan. Additionally, during the last conflict, at least 15 Indian civilians lost their lives due to fire from the Pakistan Army in the Poonch region.

Experts suggest that the most effective strategy for dealing with Pakistan is to apply diplomatic pressure. "India's strong retaliation after the Pahalgam attack inflicted significant damage on Pakistan, compelling them to seek a ceasefire. However, India is not in a position to sustain prolonged military actions like Israel in Gaza or Russia in Ukraine, as we must preserve our diplomatic relations," sources noted.

Given the current situation, diplomatic pressure appears to be the most viable approach to address issues with Pakistan. Following the death of Osama Bin Laden in Pakistan, the country faced international scrutiny, which has since diminished. India must once again leverage diplomatic channels to compel Pakistan to act against terrorist leaders operating within its borders.

When asked if the Pahalgam attack was a result of intelligence failures, sources responded, "It is challenging to obtain precise information regarding terrorist plans consistently. Over the years, intelligence agencies have thwarted numerous terrorist plots, but these successes often remain undisclosed for security reasons."
