Evacuation Efforts Underway for Indians in Iran

New Delhi: In light of the escalating unrest in Iran, India is gearing up to evacuate its citizens from the country. This decision comes as the United States has not dismissed the possibility of military action against Tehran due to its response to widespread protests.

On Wednesday, the Indian government advised all its citizens in Iran to depart using any available means and to refrain from traveling to the country.

As the situation continues to develop, the Ministry of External Affairs is preparing to assist Indian nationals who wish to return home, according to official sources.

Reports indicate that the government is considering utilizing both civilian and military aircraft for the repatriation of its citizens.

Currently, it is estimated that over 10,000 Indians, including students, are residing in Iran.

The Indian embassy in Tehran has urged all Indian nationals, including students, pilgrims, business travelers, and tourists, to leave Iran as soon as possible.

Additionally, the embassy has advised all Indian citizens and Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) to exercise caution, avoid protest areas, and maintain communication with the embassy.

US President Donald Trump has indicated that military intervention in Iran remains a possibility.

"If they execute anyone, we will respond strongly," Trump stated in an interview with CBS News on Wednesday.

In a message directed at the protesters, Trump assured that "help is on the way."

He has also imposed a 25% tariff on nations trading with Tehran.

The protests, which began in late September following a significant drop in the Iranian currency, have expanded across all 31 provinces, shifting from economic grievances to calls for political reform.

Reports suggest that the protests have resulted in over 2,500 fatalities in Iran to date.
