India's Stance on Bangladesh Relations Amid Rising Tensions
India's Commitment to Friendship with Bangladesh
Guwahati, Dec 26: Former diplomat Jaideep Mazumdar emphasized that India values its friendship with Bangladesh, demonstrated through years of generous support and collaboration. However, he warned that any attacks on Indian diplomatic missions would lead to serious repercussions.
Mazumdar, reflecting on the current climate in Bangladesh and the growing anti-India sentiments, stated that the bond between the two nations is fundamentally rooted in the people. He pointed out that certain factions are attempting to undermine this relationship by inciting hostility among the youth in Bangladesh.
When asked about the potential for improved relations, he noted that India has consistently engaged with every Bangladeshi government, irrespective of the ruling party. "Our developmental ties extend far beyond the current Sheikh Hasina administration, a fact often ignored by those promoting anti-India narratives," he remarked.
He further clarified that allegations against Hasina are internal issues for Bangladesh, asserting that India remains neutral. "What matters is ensuring a legitimate election in Bangladesh that leads to a government India can work with," he added.
It is important to note that the situation in Bangladesh has raised significant concerns for India, with radical groups gaining influence and anti-India sentiments escalating. There have been multiple attempts to target Indian diplomatic missions, particularly following the recent violence after the death of youth leader Osman Hadi. Some Bangladeshi leaders have even called for the annexation of India's Northeast region. Amidst these developments, India is closely monitoring the situation, as unrest in Bangladesh could have repercussions for its own security.
