Squash: Women's Team Triumphs Over China, Men's Team Prepares for Opener
India's women's squash team kicked off their Asian Games journey with a 2-1 victory against China. Despite Shameena Riaz's tough five-game loss to Yin Ziyuan, the team rallied back with impressive performances from Tanvi Khanna and Joshna Chinappa, who both secured straight-game wins. Shameena fought valiantly but ultimately lost 11-8, 11-6, 9-11, 9-11, 14-12. Tanvi equalized the match by defeating Zhang Yuning with a score of 11-3, 11-5, 11-5, and Joshna clinched the overall win with her 12-10, 11-4, 11-6 victory over Liu Ziyi.
Later on Monday, India will face Japan, with Iran also in their pool.
Following the women's match, the men's squash team is set to compete against China in their opening pool match. Notably, Abhay Singh, who earned a silver medal on Sunday, has been rested for this team event. The matches will feature Suraj Chand, Veer Chotrani, and Velavan Senthilkumar.
Volleyball: Men's Team Maintains Winning Streak
The men's volleyball team continued their strong performance, achieving a second consecutive win by defeating Hong Kong in straight sets with scores of 25-22, 25-19, and 25-21. Captain Jerome Vinith played a pivotal role, supported by teammates John Joseph, Ashwal Rai, and Chirag Yadav. The team is scheduled to face Qatar on Tuesday, a match that could determine the leaders of Pool C.
