India's Shooting Team Shines with Historic Gold at Asian Games
Historic Achievement in Shooting
Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo, the President of the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI), expressed pride in India's shooting team after Suruchi Inder Singh and Kamaljeet secured gold in the 10m air pistol mixed team event at the Asian Games. This victory highlights a promising future for shooting sports in India.
The Indian duo achieved a score of 484.6 points, surpassing South Korea's 478.0 and Iran's 415.8, while also breaking the previous Asian record of 481.3 set by Uzbekistan earlier this year. With this win, India's medal tally has reached 19, comprising two golds, eight silvers, and nine bronzes. Suruchi and Kamaljeet maintained their lead from the start, overcoming a late challenge from South Korea to win by a margin of 6.6 points, falling just four points short of the world record. Earlier, the Indian women's cricket team claimed the nation's first gold by defeating Sri Lanka by 147 runs.
Celebrating the First Gold in Shooting
In a statement following the gold medal win, Singh Deo remarked that this achievement has fostered a joyful atmosphere and marks India's inaugural gold in shooting at these Games. He noted, "This is a moment of joy. This gold medal is a significant milestone for our shooting team. With ten medals already secured in shooting, we are optimistic about the remaining events, including 25m, 50m, and trap shooting, where we anticipate further medal opportunities."

Singh Deo emphasized the NRAI's commitment to nurturing shooters by providing them with the necessary support and platforms to excel internationally. Resilience Amidst Challenges
Reflecting on the mixed outcomes in the men's and women's 10m pistol events, Singh Deo acknowledged the visible disappointment but highlighted the resilience demonstrated by the mixed team. He explained, "While there was some disappointment in the men's and women's 10m pistol events, the mixed team gold illustrates our shooters' determination. They broke both the Asian record and the Asian Games record, winning by a significant margin, which is commendable in air pistol competitions."
Looking Ahead to More Success
Singh Deo reiterated that the shooting campaign is far from over, with numerous events still to come. He remarked, "In sports, there are ups and downs. It's important to note that out of all of India's medals, ten have come from shooting. This gold is just the beginning, and we still have more shooting events ahead. Today, we also secured a silver in the 50m rifle, and we have two finalists from whom we expect great results. Let's remain hopeful for continued success in shooting."
