Indian LPG Carriers on Course Amidst Regional Instability

In the context of escalating instability in Western Asia, two LPG carriers flying the Indian flag, Jag Vasant and Pine Gas, are preparing to transit the highly sensitive Hormuz Strait. Reports indicate that both vessels are en route from the Persian Gulf to India and are currently heading towards the Larak Keshm Channel. After crossing the strait, these ships will set sail towards Indian ports with their LPG cargo.

Earlier on March 20, the government announced that India has intensified collaboration with international partners to safeguard its energy security and ensure the safety of Indian citizens in the Gulf. Amid pressures on trade and logistics, the central government unveiled a relief package of ₹4.97 billion to support exporters affected by the ongoing crisis. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated, “This has been a challenging time not just for us, but for the entire global community. Our leaders are in contact with their counterparts.” He also mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other senior officials are actively engaging with countries like Kuwait.

Global Coalition Condemns Iran's Actions in Hormuz

More than 20 nations have issued a joint statement condemning Iran's actions that effectively 'shut down' the Hormuz Strait. Countries including the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Canada, South Korea, Australia, and several European nations have denounced Iran's attacks on commercial vessels and oil and gas infrastructure. The statement reads, “We strongly condemn the recent attacks by Iran on unarmed commercial vessels in the Gulf, including assaults on oil and gas facilities, and the Iranian military's effective closure of the Hormuz Strait.
