Champions of the AHF Junior Asia Cup 2026
The Indian Junior Women’s Team emerged victorious in the AHF Junior Asia Cup 2026, narrowly beating the host nation China 1-0 in a tense final held on Sunday. A goal from Sanika Chandrakant Mane in the 17th minute secured the win, allowing the defending champions to retain their title and achieve a hat-trick of Women’s Junior Asia Cup victories. This win also qualifies India for the FIH Junior Women’s World Cup. In recognition of their success, Hockey India announced a reward of Rs 3 lakh for each player and Rs 1.5 lakh for every member of the support staff.

The final match commenced cautiously, with both teams displaying early nerves. China had more possession and sought to pressure India, but the Indian players maintained their composure, successfully navigating the initial phase without conceding. Despite China's territorial advantage, India's solid defense prevented any clear scoring opportunities, leading to a goalless first quarter.
Mane's Decisive Strike
India capitalized on their chance early in the second quarter. Sanika Mane showcased her skill by sneaking behind a Chinese defender and deftly deflecting a long pass into the circle, beating goalkeeper Xu Mengjiao to score the opening goal.
China's best chance to equalize came from a penalty corner, but their attempt was disallowed as the ball entered the goal above the allowed height, much to the relief of the Indian supporters.

As the match progressed, India demonstrated remarkable defensive strength. The final quarter highlighted their resilience, as they remained disciplined and compact, successfully thwarting China's attempts to penetrate their defense. India held onto their 1-0 lead until the final whistle, securing a memorable victory.

India concluded the tournament unbeaten, having topped the Elite Pool with three wins and a draw. They defeated South Korea 5-1 in the semi-finals before clinching the title against China, marking their third consecutive championship.
