Veer Chotrani's journey at the World Squash Championships concluded on Sunday in Giza, Egypt, following a second-round defeat to the top-ranked Mostafa Asal. Chotrani, who holds the 45th position in global rankings, faced a straight-set loss with scores of 11-5, 11-2, and 11-4 against the defending champion, as reported by Olympics.com.

Chotrani's Path to the Second Round

The 24-year-old athlete was among four Indian squash players who advanced to the second round. He secured his spot by defeating fellow countryman and World Cup champion Abhay Singh in a thrilling opening match, winning 3-2.

Disappointing Performances from Other Indian Players

In the first round, both Velavan Senthilkumar and Ramit Tandon faced early exits. Senthilkumar, ranked 50th, was defeated by France's sixth seed and current world No. 5, Victor Crouin, with a score of 3-0. Meanwhile, Tandon, who is ranked 40th, lost to Egypt's Kareem El Torkey by 3-1.

A Recurring Theme for Indian Squash

Last year's World Squash Championships also saw India's campaign end in the second round in Chicago, with Anahat Singh, Veer Chotrani, Abhay Singh, and Ramit Tandon all eliminated after competitive matches. Velavan Senthilkumar was ousted in the first round during that event as well.

Women's Participation and Future Prospects

This year, India's female squash players, including rising star Anahat Singh, did not participate in the championships. Notably, India has yet to secure a medal in the singles category at the World Championships. Looking ahead, squash is set to make its Olympic debut at the 2028 Los Angeles Games.
