India's Job Creation Surges: 17 Crore Opportunities in a Decade

Significant Job Growth in India

New Delhi, May 31: Union Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya announced on Friday that India has generated 17 crore job opportunities over the past ten years, a stark contrast to the 4.5 crore jobs created in the previous decade. The BJP has been in power since 2014, while the UPA governed from 2004 to 2014.

During his address at the CII Annual Business Summit 2025, Mandaviya highlighted that the current unemployment rate stands at 3.2%, comparable to levels seen in developed nations.

He emphasized that this indicates a robust job market, as India has emerged as a prime destination for investment.

Mandaviya stated, “In the last decade, 17 crore job opportunities opened in India. Earlier in the previous decade, 4.5 crore jobs were created.”

He elaborated that India's appeal as an investment hub stems from its transparent democratic processes and a judiciary that ensures justice based on merit.

Additionally, he noted the rising purchasing power of consumers in India, which is contributing to the country becoming a significant market.

This growing market is attracting global investors, he pointed out.

Mandaviya also announced plans for an ‘Education to Employment Lounge’ in every university across the nation, which will be managed by industry bodies with logistical support from the Central government.

He stated, “I will run the platform in collaboration with the government, industry bodies, and universities. All youth will get job opportunities according to their qualification in this career lounge.”

The minister underscored the importance of skill development aligned with industry needs, suggesting that organizations like CII could play a crucial role in training individuals and providing insights into their requirements.

He explained that educational institutions would train and certify youth based on industry skill demands, ultimately enhancing their employability.

Mandaviya expressed that job creation is vital for harnessing demographic dividends and achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047, coinciding with the centenary of India's independence.
