India's Humanitarian Efforts: Food Aid Delivered to Earthquake-Stricken Myanmar
India's Swift Response to Myanmar's Earthquake
Mandalay: On Saturday, India successfully delivered a significant shipment of food aid to the earthquake-affected regions of Myanmar, specifically at Thilawa Port, as part of its ongoing humanitarian initiative known as Operation Brahma.
A devastating earthquake, registering a magnitude of 7.7, struck Myanmar on March 28, resulting in over 3,100 fatalities.
In response to this disaster, India initiated Operation Brahma, which encompasses Search and Rescue (SAR) efforts, humanitarian assistance, disaster relief, and medical support. Remarkably, the first batch of Humanitarian Aid and Disaster Relief (HADR) supplies was dispatched to Myanmar within 24 hours of the earthquake.
The recent delivery consisted of 442 metric tonnes of food aid, transported via a naval vessel to Thilawa Port, located approximately 400 kilometers south of the capital.
The Embassy of India in Yangon shared on social media, "Meeting the needs of affected people. The food aid shipment included 405 metric tonnes of rice, 30 metric tonnes of cooking oil, 5 metric tonnes of biscuits, and 2 metric tonnes of instant noodles, all aimed at addressing the urgent food requirements of the affected communities, as stated by the Ministry of External Affairs when INS Gharial departed from Vishakhapatnam on April 1.
Additionally, on Friday, India, in collaboration with other QUAD nations—Australia, Japan, and the United States—pledged over USD 20 million in humanitarian assistance for the earthquake response, promising to deliver relief supplies and deploy emergency medical teams to aid those impacted by this tragedy.
