Santosh Jha, the Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, welcomed the Indian men's cricket team at the India House in Colombo on Thursday, just before the second Test of their two-match series against Sri Lanka. He also extended his hospitality to the Sri Lankan team ahead of the match.
BCCI Shares Memorable Evening
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) took to X to share that High Commissioner Jha hosted Team India, describing the gathering as a 'memorable evening.'
"A memorable evening in Colombo! H.E. Mr. Santosh Jha - High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka - hosted #TeamIndia at the India House in Colombo ahead of the second Test against Sri Lanka," the BCCI stated in their post.
Strengthening Ties Through Cricket
In another post on X, High Commissioner Jha expressed his delight in hosting both cricket teams, emphasizing that their mutual love for the sport helps to reinforce the long-standing relationship between India and Sri Lanka.
"Cheering for #TeamIndia. Happy to host the Indian and Sri Lankan Men's Cricket Teams during the ongoing ICC World Test Championship matches in Sri Lanka. Bound by a shared passion for the sport, cricket continues to strengthen the enduring ties between India and Sri Lanka," he noted.
India Aiming for Series Victory
As Team India approaches the second Test, they hold a 1-0 lead in the series and are eager to secure a 2-0 victory. The team, led by Shubman Gill, achieved a remarkable win in the first Test held at Galle.
Recap of the First Test
In the first Test, India triumphed over Sri Lanka by 165 runs, with standout performances from Manav Suthar, who took a maiden 10-wicket haul, and Devdutt Padikkal, who scored 167 runs in the first innings.
The final Test match against Sri Lanka is scheduled to take place on August 23 at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo.
