India's Fuel Supply Remains Stable Amid Global Concerns

Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas Assures Fuel Security

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has confirmed that the supply of petroleum and LPG across the country is completely secure and under control. They emphasized that all retail fuel outlets nationwide have sufficient stock, ensuring there is no shortage of petrol, diesel, or LPG anywhere in India. Citizens have been warned against falling for a planned misinformation campaign aimed at spreading unnecessary panic. According to the ministry, India's energy security remains robust.

In an official statement, the ministry highlighted that India ranks as the fourth-largest petroleum refiner and the fifth-largest exporter globally, supplying refined fuel to over 150 countries. As a net exporter, the availability of petrol and diesel domestically is structurally assured. The statement noted that more than 100,000 fuel outlets are operating normally, with no directives issued for rationing.

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas stated that regardless of global conditions, there is a stable supply available for every Indian citizen for approximately two months. While many countries are facing fuel shortages, price hikes, rationing, and even emergencies, India has not deemed such measures necessary. The ministry clarified that long queues at some petrol stations were due to panic buying triggered by misleading content circulating on social media. Despite this temporary surge in demand, fuel supply has been maintained, with oil company depots remaining open overnight to replenish stocks. Additional measures, such as extending the credit period for petrol pump operators from one day to over three days, have also been implemented to ensure smooth availability.

Addressing concerns over disruptions in global supply, particularly in the Strait of Hormuz, the ministry assured that India is currently sourcing crude oil from over 41 suppliers worldwide. The quantities being received are significantly higher than previous dependency levels, compensating for any potential disruptions. Indian refineries are operating at over 100% capacity, and crude oil supply has already been secured for the next 60 days. The government has clearly stated that there is no shortage in supply.
