Minister's Strong Stance on Terrorism

During his official visit to the Netherlands, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar emphasized that Pakistan must face consequences if cross-border terrorist attacks persist. Referring to the attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which occurred on April 22, Jaishankar criticized the extremist mindset of the Pakistani military leadership. He stated that India seeks a definitive end to terrorism, asserting, 'Yes, the ceasefire has temporarily halted military actions against each other, but if terrorist attacks from Pakistan continue, there will be repercussions. Pakistan must understand this clearly.'

Focus on Bilateral Relations

Jaishankar represented Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the Netherlands, who canceled his planned state visit due to recent military exchanges between India and Pakistan. The discussions during this visit centered on economic cooperation and counter-terrorism issues, along with preparations for Modi's rescheduled visit later this year. Among the bilateral topics discussed was the supply of Dutch weapons to Pakistan, a matter previously raised by Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh with his Dutch counterpart, Ruben Brekelmans, in March.

Commitment to Respond to Terrorism

Jaishankar further stated that India would retaliate against any future terrorist attacks similar to the one in Pahalgam. He clarified that Operation Sindoor remains active, indicating the government's firm stance on responding to such incidents. In an interview with the Dutch broadcaster NOS, he reiterated that the government is clear about its response to any attacks, emphasizing that the campaign continues with a strong message: if actions like those on April 22 occur again, there will be a response, and terrorists will be targeted.
