Economic Growth Projections

New Delhi, June 30: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman stated on Monday that India is set to maintain its position as the fastest-growing economy, with the potential for even greater growth. She noted that favorable monsoon conditions are expected to enhance agricultural productivity significantly.

The latest data from the Reserve Bank of India indicates that the GDP growth surged to an impressive 7.4% in the fourth quarter of 2024-25, resulting in an annual growth rate of 6.5%. This growth is attributed to strong performances in agriculture, construction, and services sectors.

In a series of posts on the X social media platform, derived from various media interviews, the finance minister expressed confidence that this growth trajectory will persist, especially with the anticipated good monsoon.

Sitharaman highlighted that the deepening of markets is evident, benefiting both retailers and ordinary citizens. She emphasized the transparency and digitization of systems, allowing individuals to access services independently, which reflects a dynamic economy.

The minister also pointed out that the government is committed to supporting labor-intensive sectors. She assured that handicrafts and handmade goods will receive necessary assistance, emphasizing that both labor-intensive and automated manufacturing will be supported by policy.

Over the past 11 years, the government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi has consistently implemented concrete policies aimed at aiding the populace, particularly micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

Sitharaman mentioned the Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana, which aims to enhance agricultural productivity and increase farmers' incomes, particularly in aspirational districts. She encouraged banks to develop tailored schemes for these regions.

The finance minister also assured that the defense sector's needs will be adequately addressed. Since 2014, there has been a focus on meeting both minor and major defense requirements, including timely delivery of essential goods.

She noted that Indian defense production has experienced significant growth, positioning the country as a notable exporter. The development of domestic capacities has allowed India to fulfill its own defense needs effectively.
