India's Diplomatic Efforts Shine as Armenia Aids in Evacuating Nationals from Iran
India Thanks Armenia for Evacuation Support
New Delhi: On Saturday, India expressed its appreciation to Armenia for aiding in the evacuation of its citizens from Iran, as efforts to bring back nationals continue amidst the escalating conflict in West Asia.
The evacuation of Indian fishermen via Armenia represents a significant step in India's ongoing mission to ensure the safe return of its citizens from the troubled region.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar took to X to express gratitude, stating, “Thank FM @AraratMirzoyan and the Government of Armenia for facilitating the evacuation of Indian fishermen today from Iran, through Armenia to India.”
In light of the intensifying conflict, hundreds of Indian nationals have recently been evacuated from Iran into Armenia. India is actively collaborating with regional governments to secure safe transit routes for its citizens.
Earlier this week, India also expressed thanks to Azerbaijan for its role in the evacuation efforts. During a media briefing in New Delhi, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal confirmed that 204 Indian nationals successfully crossed into Azerbaijan from Iran via the land border. He noted that while some evacuees have already returned to India, more are expected in the coming days.
Jaiswal stated, “Azerbaijan… several of our Indian nationals, 204 to be precise, have been able to leave Iran for Azerbaijan through the land border. And from there, they will be coming back home. Several of them have returned; others will be returning in the course of the next few days or so.”
India had previously acknowledged Armenia's support in evacuation efforts. On March 16, EAM Jaishankar thanked the Armenian government and its people for facilitating the safe evacuation of over 550 Indian nationals from Iran, commending their ongoing assistance during these challenging times.
These evacuation operations underscore India's diplomatic outreach and collaboration with various nations to protect its citizens amid the rising tensions in West Asia.
