Significant Achievement in Digital Payments

India's National Payments Corporation (NPCI) subsidiary, Bharat BillPay Limited (NBBL), announced on Wednesday that it has successfully processed over 1 million transactions in its e-challan category under the Bharat Connect initiative, with a total value exceeding ₹600 million. According to the company, e-challan payments via Bharat Connect have been initiated in states including Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, and Delhi. The platform enables citizens to "easily view and pay traffic challans through a secure, interoperable, and accessible system."

This milestone reflects the growing adoption of digital payment systems for citizen utility services and supports the country's efforts towards a digital economy. Andhra Pradesh has recorded the highest usage of e-challan services with over 700,000 transactions since the launch, followed by Telangana and Gujarat. Recently, Delhi and Himachal Pradesh have also joined this network. NBBL anticipates further expansion of the Bharat Connect e-challan network, with more states likely to participate in the future. Speaking on this development, NBBL's Managing Director and CEO, Nupur Chaturvedi, stated, "The e-challan category on Bharat Connect is rapidly gaining popularity, surpassing the one million transaction mark."

She further emphasized that this achievement reflects public trust in their platform and indicates a clear shift in consumer behavior towards digital-first public services. The company aims to continue collaborating with its ecosystem partners to deepen its reach and enhance the ease of civic payments for citizens across the country. According to the company, the success of the e-challan category represents "a significant step towards digital governance" by integrating state-level traffic enforcement into India's digital public infrastructure (DPI).
