Advancements in Digital Health Services

The initiative to digitize healthcare services in India is rapidly progressing. The Ministry of Health has announced that the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) has emerged as one of the largest digital health ecosystems globally. To date, over 939.5 million Ayushman Bharat accounts have been created under this mission. Additionally, nearly 1.05 billion health records have been integrated into this system. The National Digital Health Registry has registered 533,000 health centers and 985,000 health professionals so far.

Enhanced OPD Registration Process

According to an official statement from the ministry, 272,000 health centers across the country have adopted ABDM-enabled software. This has significantly streamlined and expedited the outpatient department (OPD) registration process in hospitals. For faster OPD registration, approximately 2.4 billion 'scan and register' tokens have been issued to date. This system allows for the secure and easy exchange of patients' health information with their consent.

Review Meeting Led by Health Minister

The recent progress was reviewed during the third meeting of the 'Mission Steering Group,' chaired by Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda. The meeting focused on discussing future strategies to strengthen the country's digital health infrastructure. Addressing the gathering, Minister Nadda emphasized that the digital public infrastructure is empowering citizens by providing secure and consent-based access to their health records.

Emphasizing Technology for Universal Health Coverage

The health minister stressed the importance of utilizing technology as an effective means to achieve universal health coverage. He highlighted the necessity of ensuring that health services are inclusive, accessible, and user-friendly for every citizen. During the meeting, the Mission Steering Group also evaluated the progress of decisions made in previous meetings, which included strengthening implementation methods in states, integrating digital health platforms into government schemes, and increasing participation from private healthcare providers.

Recognition of Initiatives for Rapid Expansion

The statement noted that the meeting praised the rapid expansion of ABDM in states and union territories through initiatives like model districts, model health centers, and Aarogya Setu 2.0. Furthermore, progress in strengthening the integration of ABDM with major government health schemes such as Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY, CGHS, ESIC, and Nikshay was also acknowledged.
