Significant Step Towards Self-Reliance in Defense Manufacturing

In a pivotal move aimed at enhancing self-reliance in defense manufacturing, the Defense Acquisition Council (DAC), chaired by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, has granted Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) for ten capital acquisition proposals valued at approximately ₹1.05 lakh crore. According to an official statement, all these procurements will be sourced domestically, reinforcing India's commitment to 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' in defense production.

The approved acquisitions encompass a wide array of critical defense requirements. The statement highlighted that key items sanctioned for purchase include armored recovery vehicles, electronic warfare systems, an integrated common inventory management system for the three armed forces, and surface-to-air missiles. These systems are designed to enhance the mobility, air defense capabilities, and logistical efficiency of the Indian Armed Forces, ultimately boosting their overall operational readiness.

In a strong display of support for maritime security, the DAC also provided AoN for the acquisition of moored mines, mine countermeasure vessels, super rapid gun mounts, and submersible autonomous vessels. These systems are expected to significantly mitigate risks faced by both naval and commercial vessels in hostile or sensitive maritime areas. The statement noted that to further accelerate indigenous design and development, the AoN was granted under the category of Buy (Indian-Indigenous Designed, Developed, and Manufactured).
