India's Diplomatic Engagement in Russia

As part of India's ongoing commitment to combat terrorism globally, a multi-party parliamentary delegation led by DMK's Kanimozhi Karunanidhi engaged in several high-level discussions in the Russian Federation. The delegation held talks with members of both houses of the Russian Parliament and prominent think tanks. They emphasized that India had no choice but to respond, and when it did, the response was measured and responsible. The focus was on ensuring that civilians were not affected and that military installations remained unharmed.

Kanimozhi stated that their actions were directed solely at establishments that harbored and trained terrorists. She pointed out that retaliatory actions continued, targeting gurdwaras, temples, and residential areas where Indian citizens reside, as well as military bases. She noted that leaders from Jawaharlal Nehru to Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have all strived for lasting peace between India and Pakistan.

She remarked that India has consistently taken initiatives in this direction, but unfortunately, terrorist attacks during peace talks have caused significant setbacks, with these incidents often linked to Pakistan. Ultimately, she asserted that it is time to reject excuses and acknowledge the truth. The Prime Minister has clearly stated that terrorism and the sponsorship of terrorism are not separate issues.

The delegation, which included MPs Kanimozhi Karunanidhi (DMK), Rajiv Rai (SP), Captain Brijesh Chouta (BJP), Prem Chand Gupta (RJD), Dr. Ashok Kumar Mittal (AAP), and former ambassador Manjeev S. Puri, paid tribute at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at the Indian Embassy in Moscow. Indian Ambassador to Russia, Vinay Kumar, warmly welcomed the delegation.
