Global Energy Crisis and India's Role

The world is currently facing a significant energy crisis, affecting regions from Europe to Africa and extending to Asian nations. The primary cause is the ongoing conflict between the United States and Iran, which has led to disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, impacting global supply chains. In this challenging scenario, India has reaffirmed its commitment to support its neighboring countries rather than abandon them, as confirmed by the Ministry of External Affairs.

Whether it’s Bhutan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, or Mauritius, India has taken steps to ensure their energy security. Several neighboring nations have reached out to India for assistance in securing energy supplies. India has been actively providing energy resources to multiple countries while balancing its own energy needs.

For instance, in March, India supplied 22,000 metric tons of high-speed diesel to Bangladesh, and continues to provide energy materials and diesel this month as well.

Support for Sri Lanka and Mauritius

Regarding Sri Lanka, India sent 38,000 metric tons of petroleum products last month. Recently, the Indian Foreign Minister visited Mauritius, where discussions were held on enhancing energy cooperation. Efforts are underway to finalize a government-to-government agreement to improve Mauritius's energy situation, allowing India to supply oil and gas.

In the case of Nepal, existing agreements between the Indian Oil Corporation and Nepal ensure the supply of petroleum products based on their requirements.

Continued Collaboration with Neighboring Nations

The Ministry of External Affairs has assured that these supplies are being delivered without any interruptions. Similarly, India has a partnership with Bhutan, ensuring the provision of energy resources. Requests have also come from the Maldives and Seychelles, and discussions are ongoing to address their energy needs.

It is noteworthy that neighboring countries have expressed appreciation for India's timely assistance in providing energy resources during the ongoing conflicts in West Asia.
