Five Boxers Advance to Semifinals

The Indian Youth boxing team has secured five medals at the World Boxing Futures Cup 2026 in Bangkok, following a series of impressive victories in the quarterfinals on Friday.


Victorious Quarterfinals

India's prospects for medals were bolstered by the success of five boxers: Gunjan (48kg), Joyshree Devi (54kg), Ambekar Meetei (50kg), Chandrika Pujari (51kg), and Radhamani Longjam (57kg), all of whom have reached the semifinals.


Morning Session Highlights

During the morning session, Gunjan achieved a decisive 5-0 unanimous decision against Azerbaijan's Gular Huseynova. Joyshree Devi showcased her skills by defeating Japan's Yura Kanemaru via Referee Stopped Contest (RSC) in the first round. Ambekar Meetei also advanced with a 4-1 win over Japan's Akira Uekubo in the men's 50kg category.


Evening Session Results

In the evening, two more Indian boxers progressed: Chandrika Pujari (51kg) overcame Spain's Andrea Buelga Garcia by RSC in the second round, while Radhamani Longjam (57kg) secured a 4-1 victory against England's Siobhan Haley.


However, Sahil Duhan (60kg) faced a setback, losing 1-4 to France's David Harutyunyan.

With five boxers moving on to the semifinals, India is guaranteed at least five medals in this prestigious tournament, which showcases emerging youth boxers from around the globe competing in Youth Olympic weight categories.
