Upcoming Argentina Tour for Indian Women's Hockey Team

The Indian Women's Hockey Team is gearing up for a four-match tour in Argentina, set to take place at the Club Ciudad de Buenos Aires from April 13 to 17. This tour is crucial for the team as they prepare for significant upcoming events, including the FIH Nations Cup, the FIH Hockey World Cup in Belgium and the Netherlands in 2026, and the Asian Games later this year.

Training and Preparation

Prior to their departure for Argentina on Thursday evening, the team underwent training in Bengaluru. After finishing as runners-up in the FIH Hockey World Cup Qualifiers 2026 held in Hyderabad, Telangana, the players aim to maintain their momentum during this tour and throughout the year.

Team Lineup and Key Players

Navneet Kaur, an experienced forward, will captain the team in the absence of Salima Tete. The return of veteran goalkeeper Savita is expected to strengthen the squad, with Bichu Devi Kharibam likely to share goalkeeping responsibilities after her standout performances in the qualifiers.

Defensive and Midfield Strength

Nikki Pradhan, who recently achieved her 200th international cap, will lead the defense alongside the seasoned Sushila Chanu Pukhrambam. Other defenders like Ishika Chaudhary, Manisha Chauhan, Jyoti, and Udita will also contribute to a robust back line.

With Salima Tete unavailable, Neha will anchor a youthful midfield alongside Vaishnavi Vitthal Phalke and Sunelita Toppo.

Attacking Options

Players such as Sakshi Rana, Rutuja Dadaso Pisal, Ishika, and Deepika Soreng, who have shown promise at the senior level, will have the chance to establish themselves in the starting lineup. Navneet Kaur, recently honored with the Hockey India Balbir Singh Sr. Award for Player of the Year, will lead the attack alongside Lalremsiami.

Additional attacking options include Baljeet Kaur, Deepika, and Beauty Dungdung, with Mumtaz Khan returning to enhance the goal-scoring potential.

This tour will allow us to experiment with different team combinations and explore winning strategies.
