Preparation for the Australia Tour

As the Indian Women's Hockey team readies itself for an upcoming tour in Australia, Captain Salima Tete has assured that the squad is fully committed to their training at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) facility in Bengaluru. After a less-than-stellar performance in Argentina, Tete expressed optimism about the team's readiness and their capability to manage pressure, viewing the matches against Australia as a vital opportunity for growth.

Anticipation and Strategy for the Tour

Tete conveyed her enthusiasm for the tour, stating that it will enhance the team's preparations for significant tournaments on the horizon, such as the World Cup and the Asian Games, as reported by Hockey India. "Facing the Australian team, known for its strength, will provide us with high-quality matches. We are eager to compete and will strive to showcase our best performance. A heartfelt thanks to our coach for their dedication," she remarked.

"Our daily improvements are encouraging. Young talents are being given chances, and they are excelling. It's crucial that we continue to support them to maintain their performance levels," she added.

Emphasis on Fitness

Discussing the intense physical training at the national camp, Tete emphasized that fitness is central to their preparation for this important tour. "Everyone is putting in significant effort towards fitness. As we know, being fit is essential to overcome any opponent," she stated.

She continued, "Fitness is vital for every player, and even the junior team is committed to maintaining it. Our fitness will enhance our performance. We did well in the World Cup qualifiers, but there is always room for improvement, especially as the team seeks to rebound. Thus, fitness remains a top priority, and our preparations at SAI Bengaluru are progressing well."

Leveraging Experience from Argentina

Reflecting on the recent tour to Argentina, Tete noted how it helped assess the team's depth and integrate emerging talents into the senior squad. "The entire team performed admirably in Argentina. Competing against such high-caliber teams is a significant accomplishment for us. This experience is crucial as we prepare for the Australia tour, the Nations Cup, the World Cup, and the Asian Games. Our immediate focus is on the Australia tour, and we aim to perform at our best to boost our confidence for the upcoming tournaments," Tete explained.

"We intend to carry the momentum from Argentina into Australia. Our goal is to maintain discipline, adhere to our game plan, and follow our coach's guidance. Each player must work on their strengths and weaknesses to enhance our collective performance. While there is pressure, we are well-equipped to manage it," she concluded.
