Deepika Sehrawat, who emerged as the tournament's leading goal-scorer, expressed her joy over the team's execution of their strategy and their determination until the final whistle. She finished the tournament with an impressive 21 goals, including a record nine goals against Thailand, surpassing her previous record of eight goals in the opener against Uzbekistan.


Deepika emphasized the team's focus and collective effort, saying, "Everyone fulfilled their responsibilities, and we fought for each other. Our mindset was clear: we would not give up until the final whistle."

Goalkeeper Bichu Devi expressed her overwhelming excitement, stating, "I am completely overwhelmed. We are just shouting with joy, looking at each other. All our hard work has paid off today, and we played as a team."


She also discussed the strategy against China, noting, "We anticipated their aggressive play in the first few minutes and were prepared to handle it. We had discussed how to maintain our position against their attacks."


Significance of the Win

This victory adds to India's medal tally at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, bringing the total to 76 medals, including 16 golds, 25 silvers, and 35 bronzes.


Moreover, this gold medal secures the Indian women's hockey team a direct qualification for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, a significant achievement following a challenging Olympic cycle where they narrowly missed out on the Paris 2024 Olympics after finishing fourth in Tokyo 2020.


Deepika Sehrawat led the tournament in scoring with 21 goals, while her teammate Navneet Kaur contributed 10 goals, and China's Jiaqi Zhong scored nine.
