BCCI's Influence on Trophy Decision

On Monday, Sumit Sharma, brother of cricketer Deepti Sharma, revealed that the Indian women's cricket team's choice to forgo the Women’s T20 Asia Cup trophy from Mohsin Naqvi, the President of the Asian Cricket Council and chief of the Pakistan Cricket Board, was guided by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). He emphasized that this decision reflects the ongoing strained relations between India and Pakistan.

Sumit expressed his pride in the team's victory, stating, "Congratulations to the team for their win. The decision regarding the trophy acceptance is directed by the BCCI, applicable to both men's and women's teams."

He further explained, "Given the long-standing tensions with Pakistan, it felt inappropriate to accept the trophy, especially since we do not engage in bilateral series with them. Our encounters are limited to ICC events."

He reiterated that the entire team adheres to the BCCI's directives, and the trophy presentation incident illustrates the current diplomatic climate between the two nations.

Rahul Yadav, brother of player Radha Yadav, extended his congratulations to the Indian team for their Asia Cup victory, commending the players' collective effort.
