Indian Women's Team Secures Gold in Thrilling Final
The Indian women's recurve archery team, consisting of Deepika Kumari, Ankita Bhakat, and Kumkum Mohod, achieved a remarkable victory by winning the gold medal at the Archery World Cup 2026 held in Shanghai on Sunday. They triumphed over the host nation, China, in a nail-biting shoot-off.
Ranked fourth, the Indian team faced the second-seeded Chinese squad, which included Zhu Jingyi, Huang Yuwei, and Yu Qi. The match concluded in a tie at 4-4 after four sets, leading to a decisive shoot-off where India won 28-26.
Ankita Bhakat, who previously secured fourth place in the mixed team event at the Paris 2024 Olympics alongside Dhiraj Bommadevara, initiated the shoot-off with a score of 9. Kumkum followed with a perfect 10. To clinch the victory, Deepika, a four-time Olympian, shot a 9, sealing the win as reported by Olympics.com.
This gold medal represents Deepika Kumari's 39th podium finish at the Archery World Cup, Ankita Bhakat's eighth, and it marks Kumkum Mohod's first World Cup medal.
Stunning Semi-Final Victory
In the semi-finals of the women's recurve team event, India delivered an outstanding performance, defeating the top-seeded South Korean team, who are also 10-time Olympic champions, with a score of 5-1.
Other Results from the Campaign
India concluded its Archery World Cup 2026 journey with two medals. Sahil Jadhav contributed to the medal tally by winning bronze in the men's individual compound event on Saturday.
Jadhav overcame Denmark's Martin Damsbo with a score of 147-144 in the bronze-medal playoff, marking his first medal at the Archery World Cup. After trailing 30-29 at the start, he made a strong comeback over the subsequent four ends to secure the victory.
Additionally, Simranjeet Kaur narrowly missed out on a bronze medal, losing 6-4 to Jang Minhee from the Republic of Korea, a former world champion and Olympic team gold medalist.
