Indian Women's Archery Team Triumphs at World Cup 2026
Celebrating the Gold Medal Win
Mansukh Mandaviya, the Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, extended his congratulations to the Indian women's recurve archery team consisting of Deepika Kumari, Ankita Bhakat, and Kumkum Mohod for their remarkable achievement of winning the gold medal at the Archery World Cup 2026 held in Shanghai on Sunday.
The Indian team, seeded fourth, triumphed over the second-seeded team from the People's Republic of China, which included Zhu Jingyi, Huang Yuwei, and Yu Qi, in a thrilling shoot-off that ended 28-26 after the match was tied 4-4 following four sets, as reported by Olympics.com.
In a post on X, Mandaviya commended the trio for their exceptional performance, stating that their dedication and skill brought pride to the nation.
"Golden Grit, Fearless Spirit, Podium Finish! Heartfelt congratulations to Deepika, Ankita, and Kumkum for securing Gold at Archery World Cup Stage 2. Your brilliance and determination have made the entire nation proud," Mandaviya expressed in his post.
The Path to Victory
Ankita Bhakat, who previously secured fourth place in the mixed team event at the Paris 2024 Olympics alongside Dhiraj Bommadevara, initiated the shoot-off with a score of 9. Kumkum followed suit with a perfect 10. To clinch the victory, four-time Olympian Deepika needed to score at least 8 and successfully shot a 9.
This gold medal represents the 39th podium finish for Deepika Kumari at the Archery World Cup, the eighth for Ankita Bhakat, and the first World Cup medal for Kumkum Mohod.
Earlier in the semi-finals, the Indian women's recurve team delivered an impressive performance, defeating the top-seeded South Korean team, who are 10-time Olympic champions, with a score of 5-1.
India's Medal Count at the World Cup
India concluded its campaign at the Archery World Cup 2026 with a total of two medals. Sahil Jadhav contributed to this tally by winning a bronze medal in the men's individual compound event on Saturday.
Jadhav secured his first Archery World Cup medal by overcoming Denmark's Martin Damsbo with a score of 147-144 in the bronze-medal playoff. After trailing 30-29 at the start, Jadhav made a strong comeback over the following four ends to achieve victory.
In another event, Simranjeet Kaur narrowly missed out on a bronze medal, losing 6-4 to Jang Minhee from the Republic of Korea, a former world champion and Olympic team gold medallist.
