Indian Women Wrestlers Reach Historic World Championship Finals
Historic Achievement for Indian Women's Wrestling
Astana [Kazakhstan], October 27: Indian wrestling has reached a significant milestone as Kajal Dhochak and Neelam Sirohi have both secured spots in the finals of the World Championships. This marks the first time that two Indian women will compete for gold in the same championship. Kajal is set to face Ukraine's Anastasiya Alpyeyeva for the 76kg title, while Neelam will go up against Japan's Yui Susaki in the 50kg final. Their success builds on the historic achievement of Anshu Malik, who became the first Indian woman to reach a World Championships final in 2021, earning a silver medal.
Sanjay Singh, President of the Wrestling Federation of India, expressed pride in this accomplishment, stating, "Having two Indian women in the World Championships finals is a proud moment for Indian wrestling. Kajal's comeback demonstrated immense belief and courage, while Neelam's performance showcased her preparation and composure. Their success is a testament to the wrestlers, their coaches, and all those supporting them. We wish both athletes the best of luck as they compete for gold."
