Indian U-23 Fencing Team Shines at Commonwealth Championship with 17 Medals
Outstanding Performance by Indian U-23 Fencers
The Indian U-23 Fencing team achieved a remarkable feat at the U-23 Commonwealth Fencing Championship, amassing a total of 17 medals in both Men's and Women's Individual events. This impressive tally included 4 Gold, 4 Silver, and 9 Bronze medals, marking one of the most successful outings for India in the international fencing arena.
The national team showcased exceptional skill and depth, ensuring that at least one Indian fencer reached the podium in all six individual events, which included Sabre, Foil, and Epee categories.
Men's Team Achieves Historic Sweep
In a stunning display, the Men's Sabre event saw Team India achieve a complete podium sweep. Nikhil Wagh led the charge by winning the Gold medal, while Lakshay Badser secured Silver. Ashwini Arya and Laishram Moramba shared the Bronze medals, completing a remarkable four-way victory, as reported by the Fencing Association of India.
The Men's Foil and Epee categories also saw strong performances from Indian athletes. Tejas Patil earned Silver in Men's Foil, with Hemash Sanasam taking Bronze, finishing behind England's Oliver. In Men's Epee, Lokesh Vemani brought home Silver, while Shaurya Ashwini and Godwin Anbkess secured Bronze alongside Gold medalist Thompson from Nigeria.
Women’s Team Excels with Two Gold Medals
The Indian women's team also showcased their prowess, winning Gold in two out of three categories. Joys Ashita triumphed in Women's Foil, finishing ahead of her teammate Kanaglakshmi, who took Silver. In Women's Epee, Prachi Lohan claimed Gold, with Nivedhya Nair and Anupriya both earning Bronze medals. In Women's Sabre, Jeferlin won Gold, Aakhari took Silver, and Shreya Gupta added a Bronze to the women's medal tally.
