India's U-18 Hockey Team Faces Defeat

In a recent match at the U-18 Asia Cup 2026 held in Kakamigahara, Japan, the Indian U-18 Men's Hockey Team experienced a setback, losing 2-4 to the host nation. The goals for India were scored by Ashish Tani Purti in the 25th minute and Captain Ketan Kushwaha in the 32nd minute. Japan's goals came from Captain Yoshioka Mahiro (15'), Fujiwara Yuma (20'), Yasui Kengo (34'), and Takahashi Aone (42').


Japan Takes Early Lead

The first quarter was fiercely contested, with both teams vying for control in midfield. Japan managed to score first in the 15th minute, thanks to a well-executed play where Watanabe Atsuhiro set up Captain Yoshioka Mahiro, who finished with a diving shot.


India Responds but Japan Maintains Advantage

In the second quarter, Fujiwara Yuma extended Japan's lead to 2-0 with a powerful backhand shot from the left side. India then earned their first penalty corner, which Ashish Tani Purti converted in the 25th minute, narrowing the gap before halftime.


The second half began with India equalizing in the 32nd minute after a penalty corner. Although the initial shot was saved, Captain Ketan Kushwaha capitalized on the rebound to score.


However, Japan quickly regained the lead with Yasui Kengo scoring from a penalty corner in the 34th minute, followed by a field goal from Takahashi Aone in the 42nd minute, making it 4-2.


Despite several attempts from India in the final quarter, Japan's defense held firm, securing the victory and three points.
