Indian Teqball Duo Advances to Bronze Medal Match at Asian Games 2026

Victory in Repechage

Quimcy Joaquim Dsouza and Mohamed Anas Imran Beg from India triumphed over the Philippines' Abulencia Jhoana and Agustin Prince with a score of 2-0 in the Teqball mixed doubles repechage, securing a spot in the bronze medal match at the Asian Games 2026 in Nagoya, Japan, on Friday.

The Indian pair will aim for a podium finish on Sunday. They dominated the first set of the repechage, winning 12-3, and followed it up with a 12-6 victory in the second set, achieving a straight-set win.

Journey to Repechage

Previously, Dsouza and Beg faced a setback against Vietnam's Gian Nghi Trinh and Hoang Minh Tan Nguyen in the mixed doubles quarter-finals. They lost in straight sets, 0-2, struggling to find their rhythm initially, losing the first set 12-7. Although they put up a stronger fight in the second set, they fell short, losing 12-10, which eliminated them from contention for gold and silver medals.

Group Stage Performance

The Indian duo advanced to the quarter-finals after a tough preliminary round-robin phase, finishing with two wins and two losses in their four group matches. Their qualification was confirmed with a decisive victory over Kuwait in their final group match.

Dsouza and Beg kicked off their campaign with a solid win against the Philippines' Abuencia Jhoana and Agustin Prince, winning 2-0. However, their second match against Cambodia's Bun Thuonvireak and Yorn Sophornraksmy was a nail-biter, resulting in a narrow 1-2 defeat after a hard-fought three-set battle.

In their third group match, they faced another challenge, losing 0-2 to Thailand's Dejaroen Phakpong and Wongkhamchan Suphawadi. With their qualification on the line in the final group encounter, Dsouza and Beg responded strongly against Kuwait's Alebraheem Salman and Alfailakawi Hessah, winning decisively with scores of 12-1 and 12-6, finishing with a 2-2 record and advancing to the quarter-finals.

Dsouza's Women's Singles Competition

In addition to her mixed doubles performance, Dsouza is also competing in the women's singles event. She topped Group A with victories over opponents from Japan and Cambodia and is set to face Indonesia's Sumaya in the semi-finals on Saturday.
