Indian Swimming Team Receives Enthusiastic Send-off for Asian Games
Warm Send-off for Indian Swimming Team
The Indian swimming team was given a heartfelt send-off at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) National Centre of Excellence (NCOE) in Ahmedabad, as they prepare for the upcoming Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games in Japan.
This ceremony marked the end of the team's training camp, which took place at the Veer Savarkar Sports Complex from August 1 to September 10. Dola Banerjee, an Arjuna Awardee and Olympian, attended as a Special Guest, motivating the swimmers ahead of the continental competition.
Dignitaries Share Optimism
The event was graced by several dignitaries, including Prashant Singh, Regional Director of SAI RC Gandhinagar; Monal Chokshi, Secretary General of the Swimming Federation of India; Aditi Singh, Director of SAI NCOE Ahmedabad; Kamlesh Nanavati, Vice President of SFI; and Dronacharya Awardee Pradeep Kumar Sreedharan, the Head Coach of the Indian swimming team.
Dola Banerjee emphasized the advancements in sports facilities and support for athletes, expressing her confidence in the team's potential. She remarked, "In my competitive days, we often lacked equipment. Now, our athletes are consistently improving on the international stage, and I believe they will excel this time as well."
Coaches and Officials Express Support
Pradeep Kumar Sreedharan praised the swimmers for their dedication during the training camp and expressed optimism for their performance at the Asian Games.
Prashant Singh reassured the athletes of ongoing institutional support, stating, "We are dedicated to providing the best facilities and training environment for our athletes. Upon their return, they will find even better resources than before."
Monal Chokshi acknowledged the support from SAI and the Government of India, thanking them for their assistance during the training period.
Encouragement from Officials
Kamlesh Nanavati encouraged the swimmers to maintain confidence and focus on their preparations without succumbing to pressure during competitions. He noted, "The athletes have shown remarkable discipline and effort during the camp, and I am confident they will perform exceptionally at the Games."
Traditional Send-off Ceremony
During the send-off, SAI officials conducted a traditional tilak ceremony for the swimmers, wishing them well for the Asian Games. Volunteers from MyBharat also participated, extending their best wishes as the athletes set off to represent India.
Roster of the Indian Swimming Team
The Indian swimming team consists of ten male athletes who have qualified for the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games. The team is led by Head Coach Dronacharya Awardee Pradeep Kumar Sreedharan, with coaches Veer Dhawal and Nataraj V, and Sean Kelly serving as the Foreign Technical Consultant.
The team members include Akash Mani, Aneesh Kumar Gowda, Benediction Rohit, Dhakshan, Heer Gitesh, Sajan Prakash (Captain), Srihari Natraj, Utkarsh Santosh Patil, Danush Suresh, and Vedaant Madhavan.
