Squash Mixed Doubles: A Hard-Fought Bronze

The Indian squash team, comprising Joshna Chinappa and Velavan Senthilkumar, clinched a bronze medal in the mixed doubles category at the Asian Games 2026. They faced a challenging semi-final against Hong Kong's Lee Ka Yi and Tang Ming Hong, ultimately losing in a nail-biting three-game match on Saturday.

The match concluded with scores of 10-11, 11-2, and 10-11, reflecting the intense competition. The first game was marked by extended rallies, with both teams struggling to gain a significant advantage. Despite their efforts, the Hong Kong duo managed to secure the first game 11-10.

In a remarkable comeback, the Indian pair dominated the second game, quickly establishing a 3-0 lead and extending it to 7-2, eventually winning 11-2, which set the stage for a decisive third game.

The final game saw Lee and Tang take an early lead at 5-2. However, Joshna and Velavan rallied to equalize at 6-6 and even led 10-7, just one point away from victory. Unfortunately, the Hong Kong team made a stunning comeback, winning four consecutive points to take the game 11-10 and advance to the finals.

As a result of this semi-final loss, Joshna Chinappa and Velavan Senthilkumar secured a bronze medal in the mixed doubles squash event at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.

Athletics: Historic Silver in Marathon

In athletics, Sawan Barwal made headlines by winning a silver medal in the men's marathon, setting a national record with a time of 2:11:37.

Tejaswin Shankar and Thowfeeq Noushad continued their decathlon journey, with Tejaswin finishing first in the long jump at 7.53m and Thowfeeq coming in third at 7.37m, placing them second and fourth overall.

In the shot put, Tejaswin achieved fifth place with a throw of 13.16m, while Thowfeeq secured tenth with 10.76m. Tejaswin's performance elevated him to third overall with 2484 points, while Thowfeeq stood ninth with 2290 points.

Sprinter Animesh Kujur advanced to the men's 200m semifinals after winning his heat with a time of 21.10 seconds.

Shooting: Women's Rifle Team Earns Silver

The women's rifle team, consisting of Ashi Chouksey, Tilottama Sen and Vidarsa Vinod, secured a silver medal in the 50m rifle 3 positions team event.

Tilottama finished third with 590 points, while Vidarsa placed sixth with 588 points, both qualifying for the individual finals.

Archery: Strong Performances in Team Events

In archery, India secured second place in the women's compound team qualification event, with Chikitha Taniparthi (705), Jyothi Surekha Vennam (699), and Prithika Pradeep (695) totaling 2099 points.

The men's recurve team, featuring Dhiraj Bommadevara, Neeraj Chauhan, and Yashdeep Bhoge, finished third with a score of 2039. Dhiraj topped the individual qualification rankings with a score of 698, setting both an Asian and national record.
