On Sunday, President Droupadi Murmu extended her congratulations to Indian shooters Elavenil Valarivan, Vidarsa K Vinod, and Sonam Uttam Maskar for clinching the silver medal in the women's 10m air rifle team event at the Asian Games 2026. Through her official social media account, she commended the trio for marking India's entry into the medal tally at the Games and wished them continued success in their future endeavors.

India's Strong Performance at Aichi-Nagoya Games

India kicked off its campaign at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games 2026 with a robust performance, particularly in shooting. Elavenil Valarivan secured a silver medal in the women's 10m air rifle individual final, following her collaboration with Sonam Maskar and Vidarsa Vinod to earn another silver in the team event. Additionally, Suchika Tariyal secured a medal in women's traditional 60kg MMA by defeating Mongolia's Altanchimeg Baigalmaa in the quarterfinals. The Indian table tennis teams also achieved impressive 3-0 victories over Indonesia in both the men's and women's team events, while the women's hockey team commenced their tournament with a staggering 19-0 win against Uzbekistan.

Sports Minister Applauds Shooters' Achievement

Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya praised the Indian shooters Elavenil Valarivan, Sonam Maskar, and Vidarsa Vinod for their silver medal win in the Women’s 10m Air Rifle Team event, marking India's first medal at the 2026 Asian Games. The trio scored a total of 1898.0 points, finishing second to China, which set a world record with 1904.2 points. Japan secured the bronze medal with a score of 1897.1 points.
