Strict Measures by Indian Railways Following Hygiene Complaint

In a significant move to enhance food quality for passengers, Indian Railways has responded decisively after a complaint regarding hygiene. A traveler on the Ahmedabad-Mumbai Tejas Express reported finding a fly in the vegetarian biryani served to him. In response, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) imposed a hefty fine of ₹100,000 on the catering company, 'Araha Hospitality Private Limited'. Additionally, the firm has been issued a 'show cause notice' questioning why its license should not be revoked.

The complainant was traveling on the Tejas Express when he opted for a combo lunch. Upon discovering the fly in his biryani, he raised concerns about the food quality. IRCTC officials stated that the train captain and catering management promptly addressed the issue. Although the staff apologized for the inconvenience and offered a replacement biryani, the passenger declined the offer.

IRCTC's Firm Stance on Food Hygiene

IRCTC has taken this matter very seriously, adhering to its policy of not compromising on food hygiene. Officials confirmed that the negligent catering firm, 'Araha Hospitality Private Limited', has been fined ₹100,000, and they have been asked to explain why their license should not be canceled due to this serious lapse.

This action reinforces Indian Railways' commitment to ensuring the health and safety of its passengers, making it clear that any negligence in service quality will not be tolerated.
