Investigation into Train Fires

On Wednesday, Indian Railways asserted that the recent train fire incidents were the result of vandalism, with investigations indicating the involvement of anti-social elements in several cases. The Ministry of Railways released a statement following a fire reported in a coach of the Mithila Express parked in Howrah, where a half-burnt cloth soaked in petrol was discovered. Railway staff acted swiftly to control the situation, preventing a potential disaster.

Concerns Over Passenger Safety

The railway authorities further noted that initial findings suggest that certain anti-social individuals are attempting to jeopardize passenger safety and instill fear and chaos within the railway system. The Railway Protection Force (RPF) and relevant agencies are conducting thorough investigations into all reported incidents. The railway highlighted four fire occurrences in Amarpura, Kota, Sasaram, and Howrah, emphasizing their seriousness and the ongoing detailed inquiries by the RPF.

Details of Fire Incidents

In Amarpura, bed sheets were reportedly set on fire, while in Howrah, officials found a petrol-soaked cloth in a coach's bathroom. Another incident in Kota involved flames emerging from the washroom area of the Capital Express. Additionally, in Sasaram, an unidentified individual allegedly threw a burning object into an empty coach. The railway has urged passengers to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities by calling the railway helpline at 139.

This statement from the railway comes just days after a severe fire broke out in an air-conditioned coach of the Capital Express heading to Delhi in Ratlam, although no injuries were reported. The fire erupted around 5:15 AM in coach B-1, which was carrying 68 passengers. Officials indicated that the incident occurred between Vikramgarh Alot and Luni Richha stations.
